General Summary of Operations

Magnesium Elektron, N.A. is a metal producing facility specializing in the production of magnesium alloy sheet and plate. The facility in Findlay provides a value add to the production through polishing/coating and cut to size operations. 

 

Position Purpose

The Maintenance Mechanic/Electrician reports to the General Manager. The position will assist with the facilities maintenance as well as the upgrade, modernization, installation and troubleshooting of production equipment.  Additional tasks may include performing maintenance, repair and servicing of air, oil, acid, water, gas hydraulic, electrical, sewer and plumbing systems in the plant. Employee is responsible for the maintenance of the plant equipment while adhering to established safety, environmental, quality, and maintenance procedures.

 

Main Responsibilities

  • Install, troubleshoot and /or repair systems and equipment.
  • Install conduit, fittings, switches, controls and fixtures and connect all types of electrical equipment as required for new installation or replacement.
  • Adjust all new equipment for proper electrical operation characteristics.
  • Assemble, inspect, adjust, repair or replace faulty parts and wiring on all types of operating equipment and facilities.
  • Make technical and electrical repairs as required in connection with the servicing of equipment, such as AC and DC motors, air compressors, relay and control equipment, switches, circuit breakers, transformers, panel boards, resistor banks, batteries and starters.
  • Inspect electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects and the need for adjustment or repair, and to ensure compliance with codes.
  • Responsible for the safe handling (environmental requirements) of oil, batteries and universal waste in connection with installations and repairs.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics and blueprints.
  • Use hand tools and specialized electrical tools such as a voltage tester, continuity tester and Volt-Ohm Multimeter for safety and accuracy in installation and/or repair.
  • Assist in other areas of industrial maintenance such as electronics, automation, PLCs, HVAC, pneumatics, hydraulics, welding, making, carpentry, plumbing office related computer software, industrial type machine or equipment operation as needed and qualified.
  • Assist with preventative maintenance work for equipment/machinery in the facility.
  • Operates forklift in and between departments, building and grounds.

Education

  • Required: High School Diploma or GED.
  • Technical or Trade school in electrical field.
  • Must have an understanding of NFPA 70E Code.

 

Work Experience

  • At least 4 years of relevant work experience in a manufacturing environment with emphasis on mechanical and electrical repair.   
  • Plus: Familiarity with coating operations
  • Plus: OSHA General Industry safety training s.a.: lift truck operator; HAZ COM; confined spaces; lockout/tagout; crane operator; fire safety; etc....

 

Requisites and Requirements Key Knowledge:

  • Electrical troubleshooting skills with use of basic test equipment.
  • Electrical ladder diagrams, PLC diagrams and one-line diagrams.
  • Must have strong mechanical aptitude
  • Ability to work safely with electrical wiring/troubleshooting
  • Ability to read blueprints/diagrams
  • Must have an understanding fo NFPA 70E code
  • Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces.
  • Basic math skills: addition; subtraction; multiplication; division.
  • Ability to measure with rulers & tape measures
  • Plus: ability to measure gauge using micrometer
